60 DAY
You may be wondering, so what does "60:-)DAY" actually mean and where did it come from? Well, the story starts a few years ago when my parents were bugging me to give them some ideas for a present. I had always had some small passing interest in getting some personalised number plates for my car but for various reasons had never gotten around to doing anything about it. One contributing factor to my procrastination was that I never really liked any of the designs I had seen on other cars, another was the obnoxious self-contratulatory messages that were often chosen like "2FAST" and "IAMGR8". Fortunately the original uninspiring designs of yesteryear have been augmented by some much more appealling designs to the point that today there is an extensive range available through Personalised Plates Queensland. Asthetic design qualities aside, my desire to not appear as a yet another prat in public was still concerning me. Nonetheless, after many more hours of concentrated thought (indeed, many more than would seem necessary to come up with the eventual result) I was delighted to arrive at a combination that I considered both inoffensive and creative! When the plates later arrived in my Christmas stocking I was most pleased with my choice, but to my mortification the code was not self-evident to anyone else. Most people understood the "Don't Worry, Be Happy" message, but not the relevance of 60DAY which is not derivative of my name, my car's type, my age or where I live. One friend thought it meant "60 smiles per day", which shows that some accountants are quite imaginative. Sadly I wasn't that clever, instead I was simply transposing a "6" for "G" and the "smilley" for "O" to end up with "GOODAY", which is a common greeting in Australia. But "Sixty Smiles A Day" has a nice ring to it and is as good a motto to live by as any other. After all, there are some serious psychological studies that indicate that smiling even when you are not in the mood can have a beneficial effect, so I am encouraging everyone to try and smile 60 times a day. Why not start with one right now? ![]() |
